ABOUT OUR TRAINING

hudson-yoga-project-teacher-training

Our program is designed around the concept that yoga is a 5,000 year old practice rooted in sacred texts traditions, yet is can be easily applied to modern lifestyle in which we live. The training balances the importance of honoring the historical elements of yoga with the need for teachers to make the teachings of yoga accessible to their modern day students.

We offer three different 200-hour training formats throughout the year, ensuring that you’ll be able to choose a training schedule that works for you. Our summer intensive is a 4-week program during regular business hours. We also offer two 12 weekend training formats. Our extended weekend format is a 7-month program that lasts from October-April with breaks between weekends. Our accelerated program is a 3-month program with 12 consecutive training weekends.

TRAINING CURRICULUM

Our curriculum includes 180 hours of in-studio teaching and study. As a student, you’ll be given a comprehensive education that covers:

Asana + Alignment

We teach alignment rooted in the Iyengar method of yoga. We focus on teaching safe, focused, and traditional alignment and students learn how to make poses accessible to all students.

Teaching Methodology + Voice

You’ll be given many opportunities to practice your teaching in both small and large groups. Your teacher trainers and mentors will provide feedback on ways to refine and improve your authentic teaching style and voice.

 Breathing Techniques + Meditation

You’ll learn simple pranayama techniques that can be taught during your asana classes. Plus, you’ll be introduced to different types of meditation and learn how to develop your own meditation practice and guide others through mindfulness techniques as well.

Hands-on Assists

Our approach to hands-on assists not only teaches you how to help guide students into the correct alignment of poses, but also how to aid them in deepening and more fully experiencing each pose through feel-good assists.

Sequencing

Our method of sequencing will provide you with a simple and straightforward way to create thoughtful, creative, and exciting classes that will help your students develop as students and advance their practice.

Yoga Philosophy

You’ll delve into the ancient texts that make yoga a sacred practice and understand how to incorporate this philosophy into your life and your classes in a way that feels comfortable and accessible to you and your students.

Anatomy

Our curriculum examines anatomy specifically as it is related to a yoga practice. Along with studying the bones and muscles needed in yoga poses, you’ll also learn how the physical body is influenced by the chakra system and subtle body.

Prenatal Yoga

The prenatal part of our training will teach you how to offer basic modifications to encourage pregnant students to safely practice in your class.

Business of Yoga

You’ll learn the truth and details behind what it takes to make yoga a business. We’ll provide you with tips on getting started as a yoga instructor, expanding your following, and on choosing yoga as a career path.

Julie Pasqual (RYT-500)

Julies’s teachers are the incomparable Stacey Brass and Bryn Chrisman (From Yogamaya) for asana, and the teachers of the staff at The Bhakti Center for philosophy. Her classes are inspired and infused with her love of the practices of bhakti, where the mind is stilled by the opening of the heart, nit-picky alignment, and a love of a good old sweaty practice!!

Magi Pierce (RYT-500)

For the last decade, Magi’s insightful teaching has facilitated students’ self-study by melding the paths of astute anatomical focus with open-hearted devotion and intention. Her way is equal parts precise and kind, and reflects a fervent love and dedication to this path. Her longtime study in the Vinyasa, Iyengar, and Forrest styles along with her work with Native and yogic spiritual traditions shapes her classes. This synthesis of breath-focus and anatomy nitty-gritty opens channels for deep work and healing on the body, mind, and spirit. In addition to led classes and retreats, Magi teaches both 200-hour foundation trainings and continuing-education immersions, as well as on-going and specialized mentorship programs for teachers.

Lindsey Rozmes (RYT-500, Ayurveda Health Counselor)

Lindsey found yoga when she needed it most. She quickly fell in love with yoga’s heart-healing abilities and blissful buzz. This led her to pursue her 200hr certification from Laughing Lotus in NYC in 2012. More recently, she’s completed both her Ayurveda Yoga Specialist and Ayurveda Health Counselor certifications with Dr. Rosy Mann and Kathryn Templeton at the Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, PA. Lindsey believes that these ancient practices truly guide you to the brightest parts of yourself.

Kate Lombardo (RYT- 500)

Kate Lombardo has been practicing yoga for over 10 years. As a student, she was immediately hooked on the deep sense of happiness and healing she found by connecting the body and breath. She is an ERYT200 certified teacher and received her RYT500 certification at the HYP along with her Yin Yoga certification with Corina Benner.  Kate’s lighthearted and playful classes are focused on aligning the breath, body, and mind in an effort to help students create more balance and happiness in their lives. She believes that yoga should accessible to everyone and fosters an environment where students feel comfortable learning new things and meeting new people.

Kimberleigh Weiss-Lewit (MA, RYT-500, CD/CDT)

Hudson Yoga Project Scholarship Program

The HYP Spring YTT Scholarship is generously offered by Hoboken resident, Jennifer Deare, a recent graduate of HYP’s 200-Hour Teacher Training Summer Intensive and D3 NYC Marketing Communications CEO.

Jennifer started this scholarship program after seeing the dramatic change the Yoga Teacher Training had on her life and how impressed she was by the support she has received from this unique yoga community. She said, “I have an established career with the discretionary income to afford the $3500 for this invaluable training. However, there were quite a few young women in my class who scraped together the money to attend. I would like to help one of them make their dream a reality.”

Candidates for the scholarship must complete the scholarship application (linked below) and attend one class at the HYP taught by a lead teacher trainer. The winner will receive a full scholarship for the 200-Hour Teacher Training and, upon completion of the program, will be a certified yoga instructor. Candidates must be 18 years of age to apply and are required to volunteer for 2 hours per week at the studio throughout the length of the program.
